AL-backed mayor assaults journo
The ruling Awami League (AL) activists of Kalai upazila in the district allegedly beat up a local journalist yesterday afternoon for covering a report on a clash between AL and BNP in the upazila early Thursday.
The injured is Md Shafiul Bari Russell, the district correspondent of Channel-i.
Sources said a group of activists led by Toufiqul Islam Talukdar, mayor of the upazila municipality and general secretary of the upazila AL, attacked and beat up Russell indiscriminately at Kalai Bus Terminal beside Joypurhat-Bogra highway at around 12:30pm.
Locals rescued Russell and took him to Joypurhat Modern Hospital.
