Students hone skills at English Language Fair

The day-long English Language Fair, jointly organised by The Daily Star and Robi to improve the proficiency of secondary school students in English, was held at four schools of Dinajpur and Bagerhat yesterday. Our Dinajpur correspondent reports: Over 100 enthusiastic students of Dinajpur Government Girls' High School took part in the fair after its inauguration by the Headmistress Shekhar Bhattyachariya at the school. The fair began with the screening of a movie, The Lion King. Afterwards, quizzes and competitions on vocabulary, moral lessons, extempore speech and role playing and writing picture descriptions were held based on the movie. Students also entertained the audience by reciting poems, telling jokes and singing songs. Later, prizes were distributed among the winners. Thanking The Daily Star and Robi, the school's teachers said the fair immensely helped the students enhance the art of conversation and effective communication in English. Assistant teachers Md Abdul Bari, Shehab Zil Quaamran and Md Samshul Haque were present. Our Bagerhat correspondent adds: Over 200 students of Bagerhat Government Boys' High School, Jadunath Institute and Dasani Ideal Girls' High School took part in the fair held at the boys' school premises. The students first viewed the movie and then took part in quizzes on vocabulary, extempore speeches and role playing. Prizes were distributed among the event winners. English teachers Debashish Dhali, Rahim Uddin, Mahfujur Rahman and Jagadish Chandra Halder of the schools were present. Under English in Schools programme, the fair in also being coordinated by the education ministry while Adcomm Ltd is the creative and event partner.
