6 killed, 12 hurt in road accidents
Six people were killed and 12 others injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Chittagong, Dinajpur, Netrakona and Gaibandha yesterday.
Staff correspondent reports: Day labourer Nuruzzaman, 29, of Rainkhola at Mirpur zoo road, was killed and six others sustained injuries as a covered van of Sunderban Currier Service collided with a human hauler 'Champion' at around 1:45pm in front of Eastern Housing at Pallabi in the capital city yesterday.
Driver and helper of the covered van were among the injured.
The injured were rushed to local hospitals.
Staff correspondent from Chittagong reports: Two siblings were injured as a microbus hit them while they were crossing the road at Pahartali in Raozan upazila at around 3:00pm yesterday.
Safol Barua, 5, died at Chittagong Medical College Hospital where his sister Srabonti Barua, 10, was undergoing treatment.
In another accident, a young motorcyclist Rony was killed instantly when a covered van lorry rammed his bike at Kadom Rasul in Sitakunda upazila at around 3:30pm yesterday.
In Dinajpur, Jahura Begum, 60, wife of late Shakhiat Hossain of Gaganpur village of Biral upazila, was injured critically when a shallow-run three-wheeler hit an auto-rickshaw carrying her from behind at Gaganpur village in the upazila yesterday.
She succumbed to her injures at Dinajpur Medical College Hospital.
In Netrakona, a passenger bus knocked down Almaserma, 60, of village Bartoli in Atpara upazila, on Netrakona-Madan road at Bartoli under Atpara upazila in the district, killing her on the spot at about 10:00am yesterday morning.
Following the accident, the angry mob damaged the bus.
In Gaibandha, Hossain Ali, 55, of village Nayapara in Palashbari upazila, was crushed under the wheels of a bus and five others were injured as the bus rammed a rickshaw-van from behind on Bogra-Rangpur highway at Thutiapukur yesterday morning.
Of the injured, Chaku Mia, the rickshaw peddler, Rukshana Khatun and Moinul Huq were taken to Palashbari Upazila Health Complex.
