Bangladesh's success in leprosy treatment

Speakers at a press conference yesterday said Bangladesh has shown a good success in the process to free it from leprosy. The Leprosy Mission International-Bangladesh organised the event at Chittagong Press Club on the occasion of the World Leprosy Day to be observed today. They said 86 persons have been identified with the disease in Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) area last year while it was 203 in 2010. It is a curable disease and its treatment is totally free of cost, they said. According to the mission's latest survey, there are 4,500 leprosy patients in the country. Jon Arpan Samddar, programme director of the mission, read out the statement. Project manager of Chittagong Integrated Leprosy and Stigma Reduction, Dr Sanay Pure Tripura, controlling officer of the leprosy mission Md Elias were also present.
