Three separate cases were recorded with Digholia police station on Sunday night in connection with violences that erupted soon after the results of by-election to Senhati union were announced on Thursday. OC Mashiur Rahman was complainant of the first case while one Md. Saifullah filed the second case. The OC said that he arrested seven people in connection with the case filed by himself. The seven arrestees are: Jalal Ahmed, Kazi Al Amin Morol, Md. Yusuf Howlader, Md. Ashraful Islam, Md. Hasan Sheikh, Md. Yasin Morol and Md Al Amin Morol. On the other hand, 12 people have been accused in the case filed by Md. Saifullah, son of late Rustam Ali of Chandanimahal under Digholia upazila. The complainant brought the allegation of an attempt on the life of newly elected chairman Farhana Halim, candidate of a faction of Khulna Awami League. The lone accused arrested in connection with this case is Faruk Mallick. The complainant further stated in his case that the accused with the help of others on Saturday looted many houses, shops and set those on fire while Farhana Halim was meeting people to express her gratitude after the election. On Sunday night president of Senhati union unit BNP Md. Nazrul Islam lodged another case accusing nine leaders and activists of Awami League. The complainant stated in his FIR that the accused had attacked his house twice on Friday and Saturday. They also damaged the furniture, looted valuables and later set fire to clothes of members of the family during the rampage, he said. He further said that the supporters of Farhana Halim gave him death threats thrice.
