'Withdraw cases against 2 RU students'

Bangladesh Chhatra League Rajshahi University (RU) unit yesterday demanded withdrawal of the case filed by RU authorities against BCL RU General Secretary Ayeen Uddin and activist Dipayan Sarker Dip for their alleged involvement in the campus violence on August 22 and 23. On August 23, RU acting registrar Professor Muhammad Shafi filed a case against the two BCL men for their alleged involvement in the campus violence on August 22 and 23. Ayeen Uddin and Dip yesterday met RU acting registrar Prof Muhammad Shafi at his office and requested him to withdraw the case. Later they went to RU Vice Chancellor Professor Altaf Hossain's office but he had gone to Dhaka for his official work, campus sources said. Ayeen Uddin told newsman that the case, which was filed only against a BCL leader and an activist, was a conspiracy. He said they will meet the vice chancellor today and request him to withdraw the case. Earlier on Monday, general students of RU met Prof Altaf Hossain at his office and demanded immediate withdrawal of the case against the two students. They also demanded withdrawal of all cases filed by the government against several students of different universities and colleges for their alleged involvement in the campus violence on August 22.
