Caretaker government a must
A government's duty is to look after the welfare of the country and its people. But our government not only failed in this respect, but also created new problems. Realising that people are not happy with its performance, the ruling party has become desperate and are doing things which are more harmful for them and the people.
Five people were killed when police fired on the opposition's mass procession. We condemn this killing; the situation did not call for such a drastic action.
The opposition's main demand is to restore the caretaker government system, which we think is rightful demand. In the past, Awami League did not want election to be held under BNP government, so they demanded a caretaker government and BNP yielded to its demand. Now, how could Awami League expect that BNP would take part in the election without a CTG?
There is still time. If they agree to reintroduce CTG and work for the welfare of the country, they have nothing to fear. But if they overlook people's demand and contrive stratagems to remain in power, people will never forgive them. We hope the ruling party would be wise enough to heed people's demand.
