Rakib made CEC
Four election commissioners also appointed; oath today (February 9, 2012)
If the newly appointed Chief Election Commissioner and other commissioners have any conscience and integrity, they should not accept these appointments, as they are accepted only by the ruling party and its alliance partners and not the opposition. Are they so desperate for a job?
Rafiq M We the general people expect that the Chief Election Commissioner will play an impartial role and act honestly for holding a free and fair election.
Md. Mijanur Rahman Newly appointed CEC Kazi Rakibuddin has genuine administrative skills. It would have been wise if the BNP and Awami League could have reached a consensus regarding this.
Nasirullah Mridha, USA After conducting dialogue with all political parties except Jamaat-e- Islami, our Honourable President Zillur Rahman has selected Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed as the CEC. The BNP said it would not participate in the next general election if Rakibuddin is appointed as the CEC. But he is a neutral person like his predecessor. It will be tough for him to play a neutral role under a political government. If the caretaker government system is restored, he will succeed, otherwise he will fail.
Md. Ileas Pramanik The newly formed EC can not be claimed to be neutral because all commissioners were recommended by the Awami League. It is crystal clear to the people that the steps taken to form a new EC is nothing but a drama staged by the ruling party. No election can be fair under this EC.
Md. Abir Hossain The CEC's task is highly critical and often nerve-racking but ultimately rewarding, if discharged with professionalism and neutrality. Hope he will be good enough in his new job.
M. Shafiqul Alam Thanks to Awami League for forming an unacceptable EC! Time will tell us how long this EC will stay against the legitimate demand of the democracy-loving people.
TS Adory We can not hope to have a neutral election under this newly formed EC, as all of the four members are somehow obedient to the AL.
Chashi Monir I think it won't matter who the chief and other election commissioners are if they can hold a transparent and credible election.
Tarek I am a little surprised to see the way the resume of the newly appointed CEC is presented in this news.
Faqrul, USA Kazi Rakibuddin has had a completely event-less mediocre career in the civil service. Hasina wants an EC who has no backbone and will only follow orders. Kazi Rakib will play that subservient role as CEC. But this does not bode well for democracy in Bangladesh.
Riffat If the newly appointed CEC is as good as his CV and antecedents say, then he will surely get the endorsement of the BNP before he takes his oath. Let us see what he does.
Deep purple blue A CEC should be someone who is accepted by all the political parties, not only by the Awami League.
Sumon The Awami League has scrapped the caretaker government system and now has appointed the election commissioners of its choice. They must be happy now because no one can stop them from getting to power again.
Shantona It's the same old story. No matter whether it is BNP or AL pulling the strings.
Frustrated
