The journalists from different print and electronic media of Chittagong and Rajshahi yesterday demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the killers of a journalist couple in Dhaka. Staff Correspondent from Chittagong adds: Journalists in the port city yesterday formed a human chain protesting the brutal killing of the journalist couple in the capital on Saturday. Speakers at the programme, held in front of Chittagong Press Club (CPC), demanded immediate arrest and punishment of the killers involved in the incident. They expressed deep concern over the failure to trace out the criminals despite 30 hours have passed since the killing. They urged the law enforcers to take immediate steps in this regard. Chittagong Union of Journalists President Shahid-ul-Alam, CPC President Abu Sufian, Chittagong Metropolitan Union of Journalist President Shamsul Hoque Haidary and its General Secretary Md Shanewaz, The Daily Star Chittagong bureau chief Raisul Huq Bahar, Prothom Alo associate editor Biswajit Chowdhury, ATN Bangla Chittagong bureau chief Ali Abbas, Independent Television Chittagong resident chief Mamun Abdullah, Purbokone senior sub-editor Abu Taher Muhammad, Bangladesh Protidin Chittagong bureau chief Reaz Haider and Channel I senior reporter Chowdhury Farid were present among others. Rajshahi journalist RU Correspondent reports: The journalists in Rajshahi yesterday demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the killers of a journalist couple. Under the banner "Rajshahi Journalists Society", they also announced to mourn the deaths by wearing black badges for three days. Sagar Sarowar, a news editor at private TV channel Maasranga, and his wife Meherun Runi, a senior reporter of ATN Bangla, were killed at their apartment early hours of Saturday. The Rajshahi journalists put their demand at a protest rally held at Shaheb Bazar zero point around 12:30pm. Earlier they brought out a procession. Senior journalist Mostafijur Rahman Khan presided over the programme while daily Sonar Desh editor Prof Fazlul Haque, daily Sunshine editor Tasikul Islam Bokul, Rajshahi Union of Journalists (RUJ) president Hasan Millat, Rajshahi Press Club president Anwarul Alam Fatik, Rajshahi Metropolitan Press Club general secretary Anwar Ali, Rajshahi TV Journalists Unity convener SM Sazu, and Rajshahi Divisional Online Journalists' Forum president Mamunur Rashid, among others, addressed the rally. The programme was conducted by Ekushey TV's Rajshahi correspondent Badrul Hasan Liton. Meanwhile, Rajshahi University Journalists Association (Ruja) in a statement singed by its president AM Jahid and secretary Sohel Rana condoled the deaths of the journalist couple and echoed the demands of the journalist community of Rajshahi.
