Enact law to protect personal info, says Justice Rabbani
Justice Ghulam Rabbani on Saturday stressed formation of special tribunals and enactment of a law for protecting the peoples' right to keep their personal information secret.
Different institutions or organisations sometimes collect personal information beyond necessity and some of them supply these information to others or to the state which is not right at all, said the retired Supreme Court judge.
He said this while presiding over a convention on “Byaktigoto Tathya Goponiyatar Odhikar O Data Surokkha (Personal Information Secrecy Right and Data Protection) in the city's Cirdap auditorium.
He said everybody wants secrecy of personal information and there is necessity to enact a law in this regard.
But, before that, it is necessary to determine the definition of personal information, as to which information will be treated as personal information.
Voice and Privacy International, Sushasaner Jonno Procharavijan, Tathya Odhikar Andolon, Equity BD, Media Watch and Somewhereinblog, Bangladesh, Bangladesh Manobadhikar Sangbadik Forum and Bangladesh ICT Sangbadik Forum jointly organised the convention.
