Ghat labourer dies as berthing ropes bumps him
Bumping with berthing ropes of a lighter vessel a worker died and three others were injured in Barisal Ghat area of the river Karnaphuli under Double Mooring Police Station in the port city yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Mahbub, 40, son of Abu Sayed, hailing from Morelganj in Bagerhat.
The injured labourers are Suman, Razzaque and Jamal.
Md Siddique, Ghat Majhi (head of the labourers), said the accident occurred at around 8:30am when the labourers boarded on the lighter ship for unloading the sacks of fertiliser.
Locals and other labourers took the injured to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
