Hindu community protests Ctg violence

Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, Chittagong city unit organised a human chain in the port city yesterday protesting the recent violence that took place in Hathazari upazila. A few hundred organisation members gathered in front of Chittagong Press Club and chanted slogans and demanded punishment of culprits who are out to foil the 'communal harmony' of the country. The demonstrators then formed a long human chain from Jamal Khan Road to Cheragi More. Speakers at the chain condemned the violence and criticised the role of law enforcement agencies for not taking immediate action to contain the situation. Meanwhile, Shri Shri Janmashtami Udjapan Parishad, Chittagong staged a hunger strike from 8:00am to 12:00 noon in the vicinity of Chittagong Press Club protesting the Hathazari violence. Organisation leaders Parimal Das, Debashish Palit, Timir Baran Chowdhury and Kajal Dutta were present among others at the hunger strike. On Thursday, a scuffle between two local groups broke out in Hathazari upazila centring a religious event. The fight escalated into a fully-fledged clash that continued in phases until Friday afternoon.
