11 die in road crashes
Eleven people, including a man and his son, were killed and 20 others injured in separate road accidents in Sylhet, Gazipur, Thakurgaon and Rangpur early Monday and yesterday.
Staff correspondent from Sylhet reports: Six people were killed as a Sylhet-bound truck hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Tajpur-Balaganj road at Rajapur in Balaganj upazila yesterday afternoon.
The deceased are Nazrul Islam, 28, driver of the auto-rickshaw, Kalam Miah, 30, Abdul Hannan, 32, Newar Miah, 45, and his son Sadek Miah, 12, and Tofazzal Hossain, 25.
They died instantly as the vehicle was almost smashed, said police.
UNB from Gazipur says: At least three people were killed and 20 others injured in a head-on collision between a Rangpur-bound bus and a Dhaka-bound truck on Dhaka-Tangail highway at Sutrapur Boardghar in Kaliakoir upazila yesterday morning.
The deceased were identified as bus driver Dulal Miah, 45, of Sherpur in Bogra, truck driver Mintu Miah, 45, of Bogra, and Hasina of Jirani in Savar of Dhaka.
Of them, Dulal and Mintu died on the spot while Hasina at a hospital on arrival.
Traffic on the highway remained suspended for about two hours following the accident.
Our Thakurgaon correspondent reports: Bicyclist Rakib Hossain, 13, a primary school student and son of Shajalal, died on the spot when a covered van rammed his cycle on Thakurgaon-Panchagarh highway at Kochubari village in the sadar upazila yesterday morning.
Agitating people blocked the road for an hour to protest the accident.
In Rangpur, a bus ran over Hajer Uddin, 60, of Mirjapur village of Pirganj upazila, on Dhaka-Rangpur Highway at Baradargha in Pirganj upazila on Monday evening, killing him instantly.
