Charge framing hearing against SQ Chy on March 7

A Chittagong court on Tuesday fixed March 7 for hearing on charge framing against BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury in a case filed against him in connection with vandalising vehicles in Sitakunda in Chittagong in November 2010. The court also granted him bail on a bond of Tk 50,000 after hearing a bail petition submitted by his lawyer advocate Enamul Hoque. Meanwhile, police arrested 20 supporters of Salauddin Chowdhury from the court premises yesterday during a chase and counter chase on the premises. SM Tanvir Arafat, assistant commissioner (Detective branch) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police, said DB police arrested four people around 11:30am on charge of sabotage. Md Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge (Enquiry) of Kotwali Police Station, said, Kotwali Police arrested 16 others around 11:45am while they were trying to create anarchy in the area. The BNP leader was produced before the court of Chittagong District and Sessions Judge Abdul Kuddus Mia around 11:00am. When submitting the bail prayer, Salauddin's lawyers told the court that their client's name was not mentioned in the First Information Report. His name was implicated in the charge-sheet to harass him, the lawyers said. The case relates to the incident when some BNP activists put up a barricade on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway and vandalised vehicles at Banshbaria and Silimpur Paka Rasta areas on November 7, 2010. Police arrested four people at the time. Two cases were filed on November 8, 2010 in this connection.
