BCL men at MMC ransack adminstrative building

Chhatra League (BCL) activists of Mymensingh Medical College ransacked the administrative building of the college yesterday, demanding renaming of the college auditorium, witnesses said. The MMC auditorium was named after former president Ziaur Rahman in 2001, during last BNP rule. The BCL activists were demanding renaming of the auditorium after Raisul Hasan Noman, a BCL leader and MMC student who was killed during anti-Ershad movement in 1989. According to sources, BCL men, led allegedly by Mehdi Hasan Royal and Raisul Alam Shuva, president and general secretary of BCL MMC unit, brought out a procession at around 1 pm. Later, some activists from the procession entered the college and ransacked furniture and flower tubs kept at the corridor. At one stage, they also locked the gate of the administrative building and threw brickbats at the windows of the building. Campus sources said that the BCL men had been mounting pressure on the college authorities to include their leaders in different sub-committees being formed to celebrate the golden jubilee of the college. By launching agitation in the name of renaming the auditorium, the BCL men were virtually trying to force the authorities to include them in the sub-committees, they said. Asked, Mehdi Hasan Royal, however, brushed aside such suspicion. About ransacking of the administrative building, the BCL president said that the general students of the college joined the agitation programme to realise their demand.
