Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) units of Chittagong University yesterday demanded immediate reopening of the university. Leaders and activists of the two student organisations made their demand during separate meetings held at CU teachers club with the ten-member 'Liaison Committee' formed by the university authority to maintain peace and order on the campus. “We discussed with them (activists of JCD and ICS) about maintaining a fair and congenial atmosphere of education on the campus after the university reopens on March 3,” said Khan Touhid Osman, head of the Liaison Committee. ICS sources said they also demanded arrest and trial of killers of the two students killed on February 8, release of arrested Shibir activists on that day, withdrawal of cases filed against Shibir and security of general students. “We placed nine-point demands including safety of students after the university reopens, formation of strong proctorial body, ensuring coexistence of resident students and ban on shuttle train politics,” said Aminul Islam Touhid, president of JCD. On February 8, two students were killed and around 40 others injured in fierce clashes between ICS and Bangladesh Chhatra League activists on the campus.
