2 abducted girls rescued, 5 held

Two abducted teenage girls were rescued and five people, including three women, were arrested in this connection by Detective Branch (DB) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) in Chittagong city on Saturday night. On information, a DB team raided a building on Block B, Road 8 of Chandgaon residential area around 8:30pm and rescued the teenagers, employees of a garment factory, said CMP DB Assistant Commissioner Tanvir Arafat. Three women, Payel, 25, Munni Akhter, 19, Shahnaz Akter, 20, were also arrested from the building in this connection. “As per information from the female abductors, we nabbed Moazzem Hossain, 45, the gang leader, and his companion Ripan, 25, from Chandgaon area at around 9:30pm,” said Tanvir. The gang abducts poor girls from the city and forces them into prostitution, he added. Chandgaon Police Station Sub-Inspector Motiur Rahman said, “The arrestees abducted the two teenagers a month ago with false promises of a good job and confined them in the house.”
