6 killed in road crashes

Six people were killed and eight others injured in separate road accidents in Khulna, Sirajganj, Chittagong, Rangpur and Natore early Thursday and yesterday. UNB from Khulna reports: A fish trader and his son were killed instantly when a bus crashed into a tempo carrying them at Joar in Rupsha upazila yesterday. The deceased are Mobinul Sarder, 48, and his son Monir Sarder, 8, of Alaipur village in the upazila. Police said the empty bus rammed the tempo carrying five passengers at about 6:30am, leaving Mobinul and his son dead on the spot and injuring three others. In Sirajganj, Sakhina Bewa, 70, a beggar and resident of Bilnaimuri village in Ullapara upazila, was killed on the spot when a truck hit her while she was crossing the Hatikumrul-Banpara highway near No. 8 bridge in Tarash upazila yesterday. Our Chittagong correspondent says: An unidentified rickshaw-puller was killed and three others injured as a bus rammed two rickshaws near Karnaphuli Third Bridge in the port city yesterday morning. Injured Arju, 25, Babla Shil, 25, and Salauddin, 18, were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH). In Rangpur, a passenger bus hit a rickshaw-van on Rangpur-Dinajpur highway at Taraganj upazila on Thursday evening, killing Tonna Kabiraj, 45, passenger of the rickshaw, on the spot and injuring two others. Injured Monirul Islam, 28, the rickshaw-van puller, and Md Dulal, 25, were rushed to Taraganj Upazila Health Complex. Following the accident, agitating people put up barricades on the highway for half an hour. In Natore, Umme Hani, 4, daughter of Abdul Halim, died instantly when a three-wheeler ran over her at Atikar Mor in Lalpur upazila yesterday morning.
