BDR Carnage Case
Proceedings for two days a week sought
Defence lawyers of pilkhana carnage case yesterday pleaded the court to fix two days in a week for conducting proceedings instead of three days to check statement of prosecution witnesses properly.
On behalf of defence counsels, advocate Aminul Islam submitted a petition to the court in this regard following completion of recording testimony and cross-examination of five prosecution witnesses.
To speed up the trial proceeding of the BDR carnage case, the metropolitan session judge's court earlier took an initiative to conduct the court proceedings for three days in a week.
"We promise that we will complete cross-examination of 10 witnesses in two days in a week,” Aminul Islam told the court adding, “We would not get enough time to check out statements of witnesses if the court continues proceedings for three days in a week."
In response, the court said it will talk to the authorities concerned considering the matter valid.
The court yesterday recorded deposition of Major Rezaul Karim, Major Mokarram Ahmed, Havildar Ashraf Ali, Sepoy Gias Parvez and Cook Saidul Islam. Defence lawyers later cross-examined them.
The court will resume at the capital's Alia Madrassa playground in Bakshibazar today.
So far 60 witnesses gave depositions and were cross-examined in the court. Over 1,300 witnesses are supposed to give depositions against 850 accused in the case.
