Two siblings killed in city road crash

The lives of two minor siblings came to a tragic end as they meet with an accident in the city last night. The victims, eight-year-old Sonia and her one-year-old brother Jony, were the children of rickshaw puller Kamal Hossain residing at a slum in Mohammadpur. The two kids were run over by a vehicle near Gono Bhaban on Mirpur road around 8:30pm, said Israfil Alam, sub-inspector of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station. However, locals could not ascertain which type of vehicle killed the two, he added. Meanwhile, a rickshaw puller was killed after being hit by a speeding bus in Gulshan area. The deceased was identified as Atabuddin, 45, son of Daraj Uddin of Pirgachha in Rangpur. He was a resident of Korail Slum in Gulshan. Police said a bus of Taranga Paribahan hit his rickshaw from behind near Gulshan-1 roundabout around 6:00pm. Locals chased the bus but its driver and helper fled the scene, said police. Following the accident, pedestrians rushed Atabuddin to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead. The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy. Police seized the bus.
