Five brick fields fined Tk 25 lakh
Department of Environment (DoE) yesterday fined five brick fields Tk 25 lakh for destroying farmland and polluting the environment at Kewdhala in Narayanganj.
The brick fields were Messers Ananda Bricks, Seven Zero Seven Bricks, Messers Khan Bricks and Co, Messers Awlad Bricks, and Messers Jamal Traders.
Each of these fields were running over two acres of land, thus reducing arable land in the area. Also, carbon discharged from the fields was causing air pollution in the area.
People residing in their vicinity were being affected and were posed to serious health risks.
A DoE team led by its Director (enforcement) Mohammad Munir Chowdhury imposed the fine and asked the brick field owners to stop causing air pollution.
