Pro-AL panel sweeps RU dean, academic council polls
Pro-Awami League and progressive teacher's yellow panel yesterday won 11 posts out of a total of 15 posts in the elections to Rajshahi University deans' committee, academic council, and planning and development committee.
The results of the election to the syndicate were not disclosed till filling of the report around 8:21pm.
Pro-BNP and Jamaat teachers from white panel won three posts in the elections, while a faction of BNP teachers' golden panel could win none.
The elected deans from yellow panel are Prof Biswajit Chandra (Law and Justice Faculty), Prof Anwarul Islam (Science Faculty), Prof Ansar Uddin (Social Science Faculty), and Prof Dr Mamunur Rashid Talukder (Engineering Faculty).
The elected white panel deans are Prof Abdul Hai Talukder (Arts Faculty), Prof Amzad Hossain (Business Studies Faculty) and Dr Aminul Haque (Agriculture Faculty).
The dean election at Life and Earth Faculty was remained unsettled, as Dr Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan of yellow panel and Prof Badrul Islam of white panel bagged same number of votes.
In the election to academic council, yellow panel candidates won all the six posts. The elected academic council members are Dr Nazrul Islam-2, Dr Altaf Hossain, Dr Istiak Hossain, ATM Rafukul Islam, Md Kamruzzaman and SM Ali Haider.
In the election of one member planning and development representative, Prof Nazul Islam of yellow panel gained victory over Dr Abdul Matin Talukder of white panel and Prof Khandaker Enamul Haque of golden panel.
Teachers at the university voted for electing deans and representatives to syndicate, academic council and planning and development committee yesterday.
Sources said 58 teachers from three panels of the university vied for 20 different posts in the elections held at the university Juberee Bhaban.
