Dr Alamgir acquitted of graft charges
Former state minister for civil aviation and tourism Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir and four others were acquitted of a corruption case as charges brought against them could not be proved.
The four others are M Manzur Alam, former chairman of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (Caab), former Caab members Sakiruddin Ahmad and M Iqbal Hussain and former MP and owner of Mutual Trading Company MA Sattar.
A special court pronounced the verdict in presence of the four but Dr Alamgir was not in the dock.
Now defunct Bureau of Anti-Corruption filed them in 2003.
The case stated that Dr Alamgir in connivance with others issued work order to the Mutual Trading Company, highest bidder among the three, for arranging a Flight Celebration of the Caab in 1997 that incurred the government Tk 44.5 lakh in losses.
