Dipu Moni to receive award in Kolkata today

Diplomatic Correspondent
Foreign Minister Dipu Moni will receive the prestigious Mother Teresa Lifetime Achievement Award in Kolkata today. Foreign Ministry sources said she will leave for a two-day visit to Kolkata at 11:00am today to receive the award at a function to be held at Hotel Hindustan International in the evening. The award will be given to her for serving humanity. Although in her itinerary, there is no schedule of meeting West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the possibility of meeting Mamata cannot be ruled out, a source close to Dipu Moni said. For Bangladesh, the issue of water sharing of the Teesta river is highly crucial, but the plan of signing Teesta agreement was shelved at the last moment during Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's Dhaka visit on September 6-7, 2011 as Mamata had raised objections and refused to travel to Bangladesh along with Manmohan. Our New Delhi Correspondent adds: After receiving the award, Dipu Moni will go to Midnapore district for a private visit, sources in Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata said. Her visit to Kolkata takes place ahead of her proposed trip to New Delhi for the India-Bangladesh Joint Commission meeting in the first week of May when she will have an opportunity to talk to her Indian counterpart SM Krishna.
