Demand RU students
Students of crop science and technology department at Rajshahi University demonstrated yesterday demanding shift of their department to the main campus.
The academic activities of only this department out of 49 departments at RU are held in the outer campus of Narikelbaria, 16 kilometres off the main campus, they said, while most of the students stayed at the dormitories on the main campus.
The students said they had to attend classes in Narikelbaria by university buses, and they often failed to attend classes and examinations in time if they missed the rides.
The students boycotted their classes and formed a human chain in front of the university central library around 11:00am, which was followed by a procession and a rally.
They threatened with tougher programmes, including class boycott and strike, if the demand is not met. The students also submitted a memorandum to Vice Chancellor Prof Abdus Sobhan, who assured them of taking necessary steps in this regard.
