Varsity student commits suicide in capital
Two persons, including a university student, committed suicide at East Rajabazar and Monipur of Mirpur in the capital yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Toukir Rahman Ovee, 23, a student of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, and Aminul Islam Rasel, 25, an employee of a private firm at Jatrabari in the capital.
Toukir's maternal uncle Mohammad Mamun said he and his nephew lived in a rented house at East Rajabazar.
Toukir was talking over mobile phone with his mother Jewel Begum. His parents live in Kishoreganj.
At one stage of talking, he closed the door of his room.
As Toukir did not respond to the knocking on the door, Mamun broke open the door and found him hanging from the ceiling fan with a towel.
In another incident, Rasel hanged himself from a ceiling fan with a piece of cloth at a rented house at South Monipur where he lived with his wife and a child.
His wife went to Rasel's maternal aunt's house following a quarrel between them in the morning, said police.
After that, Rasel closed the door of his room and hanged himself.
