'Abusive Attitude' of Invigilators

Some 50 HSC examinees barricaded the road before Rajshahi Government Women's College Center in Rajshahi city for two hours protesting the “abusive attitude” of invigilators. They withdrew the barricade at around 3:00pm when Rajshahi Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton reached the scene and settled the matter. The protestors alleged that the invigilators at the college's room 103 took away the answer sheet of an examinee, Ismail Arafat, when he exchanged a calculator with another examinee. When Ismail protested, an invigilator, Tofazzal Hossain, beat him and tore his shirt. When others protested this behaviour, the answer sheets of some 50 examinees were taken away one and a half hours prior to the exam's scheduled end, they alleged. The college Principal Abdul Mannan Sarker said 90 examinees of Rajshahi Government College were appearing for the accounting first part exam in the room. Refuting the allegations, except the one for beating, he said the invigilators took away the answers sheets of some 10 to 12 examinees for talking, 20 minutes before the exam's end. “Tofazzal and Ismail apologised for their actions and shook hands,” he said. Expressing shock at the incident, Rajshahi Government College Vice Principal Habibur Rahman said, “Some of the examinees are brilliant students.”
