Offering Bribe to DoE
Factory owner, manager held
A garment factory owner and manager was arrested by police in Chittagong city yesterday after being caught red-handed while allegedly trying to bribe the deputy director of Department of Environment (DoE) into withdrawing a complaint.
The complaint accused Jashim Uddin Khaled, owner of Unitex Fabrics at MM Ali Road in Lalkhan Bazar of Chittagong, and Nizam Uddin, the manager, of filling a water body.
DoE officials had at first detained the duo with Tk 25,000 they had offered to Deputy Director Golam Mohammed Bhuyan at DoE Chittagong office at noon, says a DoE press release.
The complaint was filed by a local, Md Johur Ali, of Nazirpara under Panchlaish Police Station.
