The Supreme Court has paved the way for the Anti-Corruption Commission to collect wealth statement of Syeda Iqbalmand Banu, the mother-in-law of BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman. Chamber judge of the Appellate Division stayed a High Court order on Thursday that earlier stayed the operation of an ACC notice asking Iqbalmand to submit her wealth statement to the commission. Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order after hearing a leave to appeal filed by ACC against the HC order. ACC counsel Khurshid Alam Khan told The Daily Star that there is no bar for ACC to collect the wealth statement of Iqbalmand following the SC order. The ACC issued a notice on October 20 last year asking Iqbalmand to submit her wealth statement to it in seven days after receiving the notice. The HC following a writ petition on January 30 this year stayed the notice for four months and issued a rule upon the ACC to explain why the notice should not be declared illegal. ACC filed the leave to appeal petition with the SC on April 22 challenging the HC order. Barrister Rafique-ul Huq appeared for Iqbalmand.
