Schoolgirl shot in Tongi
Local goons carry out attack over brother's love affair
Local goons shot a schoolgirl following a feud with her brother at their residence in Tongi, the capital's outskirts, on Saturday night.
The injured, Rebeka Akter, 16, a class VIII student of Abdul Hakim High School located at Shillmon of Tongi, was undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Ismail Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Tongi Police Station, said Rebeka's brother Md Sumon and Zakir Hossain loved a girl which led the feud between the two. Sumon threatened Zakir over the issue visiting later's house that night.
Zakir later with 4-5 youths went to Sumon's house around 9:30pm to "give him a good lesson." When they appeared at the gate of the house, Sumon's sister opened the door.
Soon Rebeka opened the door, Zakir fired a bullet which hit her left leg, said the police officer, adding that the attackers couldn't identify Rebeka in dark and thought Sumon himself had opened the door.
Rebeka was rushed to Tongi General Hospital and later shifted her to the DMCH around 12:30am, said OC Ismail Hossain.
He said locals rushed to the spot hearing sound of the firing and caught Faysal, a class IX student of Milestone College, but other attackers, however, fled the scene. Police arrested Faysal with a pistol from the spot.
At primary interrogation, Faysal claimed that he was called and brought there by Zakir. Zakir left the pistol to him when locals chased them.
Victim's father filed a case yesterday with Tongi Police Station in this connection.
