Six injured in BCL attack at RU
Six students of Crop Science and Technology Department of Rajshahi University (RU) were injured as Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists of the university unit allegedly attacked them yesterday.
The injured were Muhammad Asif, Shahbuddin, Saleh Akram, Mostafizur Rahman, Shariful Islam and Imtiaz Ahmed.
Witnesses said around 15 BCL workers attacked them while they were staging a sit-in before the Faculty of Agriculture on the campus at around 1:00pm demanding shifting of the department from Narikelbaria to the main campus.
The agitating students alleged that the BCL activists led by Tonmoy Ananda Ovi and Rabin Ahmed attacked them having been influenced by the university authorities.
They also threatened to besiege the university administration building and to observe fast-unto-death from today if their demand was not met and the attackers were not punished.
However, BCL RU unit President Ahmed Ali said those who attacked the students were not BCL activists.
