People block Dhaka-Ctg highway for power
An angry mob yesterday blocked the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway at Mirsarai upazila in Chittagong demanding uninterrupted power supply to the area.
Protesting the frequent load-shedding hours in the area, locals blocked the highway from 10:00am, creating 30 kilometers of tailbacks on the highway, police and local sources said.
The blockade was withdrawn after half an hour after Mirsari Upazila Chairman Gias Uddin and Polli Bidyut Samity officials of the area assured the mob of uninterrupted electricity supply, they added.
Contacted, Chittagong Polli Bidyut Samity-3 General Manager Abdul Kuddus admitted to the locals' claim and said, “We have a demand of 10-14 megawatt (MW) power supply per day while we get only 3-4 MW and this is the main cause of load-shedding.”
Power Development Board must pay attention to the Mirsarai power supply to tackle this power crisis, he added.
