Arrest warrant against RCC mayor stayed
Labour Appellate Tribunal yesterday stayed arrest warrants issued against Rajshahi City Corporation mayor and three other top officials for not complying with a lower court order to appear before it.
A labour court in Rajshahi issued the arrest warrants on May 10 against the four for failing to appear before it in connection with a charge of not paying a staff his due pension money.
The tribunal's Chairman Justice M Abdul Aziz stayed the warrants for two weeks, said Rabiul Haque Kakor, public prosecutor of Rajshahi.
He said the tribunal also ordered the accused to deposit the disputed sum of money within that time for the continuation of their appeal against the lower court's order in August 2011, which directed them to pay the money to the RCC employee.
Advocate Emdadul Hasan moved the case for RCC authorities.
Abdul Jabbar, a retired supervisor of RCC's conservation section, filed a case with the labour court on May 25 alleging the RCC authorities did not pay him gratuity and provident fund money from pension worth Tk 2.30 lakh.
Then in August 2011, the court in a verdict ordered the RCC authorities to give the money to Jabbar. However, as they failed to pay the money, Jabbar filed a criminal case with the court on April 11 this year.
Along with the mayor, RCC's chief executive officer, secretary and chief accounts officer were accused.
