Local people blocked the Majhir Ghat Road in the port city for more than one and half hours yesterday after a truck hit a school student, injuring her. The sudden blockade caused a huge tailback up to Majhir Ghat Road, Purba Madarbari, Ice Factory Road and adjacent areas. Witnesses said a recklessly driven track hit Nadia Akter, a student of class one of Purba Maderbari City Corporation Girls High School at Majhir Ghat Road under Double Mooring Police Station at around 11:00am while she was returning from the school. Nadia was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH). The angry people put up barricades on the road demanding arrest of the truck driver. Uttam Kumar Dash, sub-inspector of Dobule Mooring Police Station, said the people withdrew the barricade when the local ward councillor assured the agitating people of fulfilling their demand. Ward councillor Zahir Ahmed Chowdhury said the injured girl was undergoing treatment CMCH and the truck owner would bear her treatment cost.
