6 die in road crashes

Six people were killed and two others injured in road accidents in Faridpur, Sylhet and Jhenidah yesterday and Tuesday. Our Faridpur correspondent reports: Four riders of a private car died on the spot after it collided head-on with a local bus in Ghopghat area on FaridpurJessore highway in Modhukhali upazila last evening. The deceased include the driver Hailder Ali, 30, of Chuadanga, one Sahera Begum, 36, a girl, , and a boy, 12. Police suspected the latter three might have been members of the same family. Our Jhenidah correspondent says: A rickshaw van driver was killed and a 71-year-old woman injured as a truck hit the vehicle from behind at Kashipur bus stand in Kaliganj upazila town yesterday. The deceased is Nur Islam, 45, son of Mirajuddin of Gomrail village under the upazila. The body was sent to Jhenidah sadar hospital morgue for autopsy. The injured, Lutfunnessa Begum, hailing from the same village, was admitted to Kaliganj upazila health complex. Our staff correspondent from Sylhet adds: A rickshaw rider was killed and the driver injured when a stone-laden truck from Tamabil rammed it on Sylhet-Tamabil highway Tuesday night. The deceased is Mir Zahid Hossain, 25. The injured rickshaw puller was taken to a local hospital. Following the accident, locals put a blockade on the highway, halting traffic movement for about an hour and half. Locals caught the truck driver and handed him over to Shahporan police.
