Mozaffar Hossain Paltu elected vice president

Mozaffar Hossain Paltu, president of Bangladesh Peace Council, has been elected vice president of the World Peace Council from the Asia Pacific region. The announcement came at the conference of World Peace Council held at Kathmandu in Nepal from July 20 to 23, said a press release of Bangladesh Peace Council. Some 150 representatives of around 50 organisations from all continents participated in the conference with the slogan "A movement of peace loving people be strengthened against imperialistic aggression and exploitation” this year. Bangladesh Peace Council President Mozaffar Hossain and its General Secretary Dr M A Kasem led a 22-member Bangladesh delegation at the conference. The delegation members included Workers' Party of Bangladesh President Rashed Khan Menon, Communist Party of Bangladesh General Secretary Mujahidul Islam Selim and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal General Secretary Sharif Nurul Ambia. Special proposals favouring trial of war crimes against humanity in 1971 and protesting different obstacles created by fundamentalists and imperial powers in Bangladesh was accepted at the conference. Proposals against interference of imperial powers to Syria, Libya, Cuba and Iran were also accepted. Later on, an agreement was signed between Bangladesh Peace Council and Vietnam Peace Council to strengthen bilateral relationship and peace movement in the Asia Pacific region.
