Five held with gun, Yaba tablets

Law enforcers arrested five persons with a Myanmar made gun, a cartridge and 3,465 Yaba tablets in separate drives in Pahartali, Chowkbazar and Chowmuhani areas of Chittagong city on Sunday night. Jahidul Islam, 32, and Khalil Ahmed, 36, were arrested with a gun, a cartridge, and 1,100 Yaba tablets at Jamtala under Pahartali Police Station during a raid by a team of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-7) around 7:30pm. On information from the duo, the same team arrested Reaz Uddin Chowdhury Rasel, 28, and Ziaul Alam, 28, seized 2,200 Yaba tablets from them, raiding ICT building in Chowkbazar area under Panchlaish Police Station at about 8:45pm. The arrestees were handed over to respective police stations and two cases were lodged against them, said Lt Commander Mohammad Nuruzzaman, commander of Chandgaon Camp, who led the two drives. In another raid on a shop of Ibrahim Building in Chowmuhani area, the Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested a man with 165 Yaba tablets. The arrestee, Md Shaidullah, 28, who hails from Comilla, was handed over to Double-Mooring police, and a case was lodged against him, said Tareq Ahmed, assistant deputy commissioner of DB, Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP).
