Thanks to Mr Anam for this timely and courageous analysis. This is extremely sad, painful and very unpatriotic attitude of the govt. This humiliation of Dr Yunus is very unacceptable. Md Salam
Thanks for reflecting the feelings of millions of Bangladeshis who are extremely hurt by these heinous activities of the government against a person who dedicated his whole life for economic establishment of the poor people. Can you please have this informative commentary published in Prothom Alo in Bangla? Jashim
What kind of a nation we are and what kind of leaders we have! The present government often say that today the village people are leading better life and they are progressing. I think the credit should go to Grameen Bank and Dr Yunus as its founder. This is a very timely article, thanks to Mahfuz Anam for his effort. Other journalists and eminent citizens must also come forward at this crisis moment and write to make the government understand and eventually save our Grameen Bank and millions of poor people of this country. M. Hifzur Rahman
While many serious issues in the country are unattended, I do not find any reason for the efforts of government to defame Professor Yunus. T. Raiden
It is true that our young generation wants to build a country of dignity but the present leaders want a country of chaos, confusion and corruption so that they can plunder the wealth of the country. The present situation says that a leadership devoid of an iota of patriotism can do anything, even can destroy an institution which has brought so much respect for Bangladesh. Makhan
The commentary has touched the hearts of millions of Bangladeshis living in the country and abroad. We are deeply frustrated at the events of criticising the man who has brought so much glory to our country with his extraordinary creativity and genius. As a consequence, this Grameen model is being replicated in more than 50 countries of the world. We are being respected in the world because of this man. We sincerely hope and pray that after reviewing this brave and excellent article written with enormous wit and logic, the government will change its position against Dr. Yunus and GB. Mahfuzul H Chowdhury
Honestly speaking, it is extremely difficult to believe that we are living in such a country where our government may become so unreasonable and speak devoid of rationality and truthfulness. M. K. Alam
Where will we stand in the international arena? Personal grudge, envious attitude, and misconception of our national leaders in all good efforts have resulted in cancellation of funds for Padma bridge project. Nazrul M Islam
Dr Yunus is no longer with the Grameen Bank. Even government's own report says that currently Grameen Bank is making more profit than when Yunus was with the bank. That means it is being run very efficiently which shows that the structural setup of the bank is not only proper but excellent. Bangladeshi intellectuals in general have not taken any initiative to inform the public about the true picture of Grameen Bank. More than eight million poor women's livelihood and their future are at stake. I hope, though late, the intellectuals will take up their responsibilities with integrity for the greater good of the country.
