BCL leader killed in N'ganj
A Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader was killed and his mother injured when a group of miscreants swooped on them at their residence in Kanchan area of Rupganj upazila in Narayanganj early yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Russell Mia, 24.
The victim's mother and president of Kanchan municipality unit of Awami League Samsunnahar Begum sustained bullet injuries as she tried to shield her son from the miscreants' onslaught.
Protesting the incident locals barricaded the Gazipur-Madan road for three hours.
Atiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Rupganj Police Station, said the criminals entered Samsunnahar's home looking for her younger son Rana. As Rana was not home they attacked Russell and stabbed him indiscriminately.
The criminals later fired at Russell injuring Samsunnahar in the process as she tried to protect her son.
Samsunnahar lodged a case in this connection against 10 people.
