13 killed, 36 injured in road accidents
Thirteen people, including a university student, were killed and thirty-six others injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Chittagong, Narsingdi, Comilla, Faridpur and Lalmonirhat yesterday.
Staff correspondent reports, a bus driver was killed as a bus ran him over in the capital's Gabtoli area yesterday.
The deceased Ainal Haque, 40, a resident of Rainkhola under Shah Ali Police Station, was a driver of Uttaran Paribahan on Dhaka-Dinajpur route.
Police said a bus hit the man from behind at a petrol pump in Gabtoli area around 7:30am.
He died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
In Chittagong, Ramjan, 50, was killed as a bus crushed him while he was crossing Dhaka-Chittagong highway in BSRM mill area of Sitakunda upazila yesterday morning.
In another accident, an unidentified man died after being run over by a bus in Export Processing Zone (EPZ) area under Bandar Police Station in the city yesterday.
Yet another accident, Abdul Kader, 40, was injured as a truck collided head-on with a covered van on the highway in front of RR Textile Mills in Sitakunda around 8:30am yesterday.
In Narsingdi, a bus collided head-on with a truck on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Morjal in Raipura upazila yesterday morning, killing three people instantly and injuring 20 others.
Highway police said the bus plunged off a bridge after breaking its railing.
One of the deceased is Shamsul Haque, 62.
UNB from Comilla reports, three people died and two others injured as a covered van hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Comilla-Brahmanbaria road at Saheber Bazar in Burichang upazila yesterday morning.
One of the deceased is Abu Naser, a student of Chittagong University hailing from Shahrasti in Chandpur.
The injured auto-rickshaw driver and a child were rushed to Comilla Medical College Hospital.
Meanwhile, a banker was killed and two others were injured as a private car hit a tree beside Comilla-Chandpur road at Banshpur in sadar Dakshin upazila yesterday.
The deceased is Abul Kalam Majumder while the injured are Wasim and car driver Idris.
Our Faridpur correspondent says, two people were killed and 10 others injured as a bus crashed into a pick-up van on Dhaka-Barisal highway at Basagari in Nagarkanda yesterday morning.
The deceased are Shariful Islam, 22, of Faridpur town and Jahangir Kabir, 40, of Kundapasha in Jhalakati.
The injured were admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
In Lalmonirhat, Hamidul Haque Mandol, 57, Lalmonirhat sadar upazila food inspector, was killed and his son injured as a bus hit a motorcycle they were riding on Lalmonirhat-Burimari highway in Rotherpar area of Aditmari upazila yesterday noon. Critically injured Khokon Mandol, 21, was undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
