Lost Baggage
Indian forum asks Biman to compensate
Biman Bangladesh Airlines has been directed by an Indian consumer forum to pay Rs 41,000 to an Indian passenger for loss of his LCD TV in transit from Bangkok.
The New Delhi District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum held Biman guilty of rendering deficient service in the incident.
It also asked the airline to pay the sum, including Rs 31,000 as the TV's cost and Rs 10,000 as compensation for harassment and litigation cost, to the complainant Kirpal Singh, a resident of Delhi.
Singh said he had bought a LCD TV for Rs 31,000 during his visit to Bangkok. On his return flight from there on May 2, 2010, he deposited the TV with the airline for being transported to India via the same flight he was traveling in.
On reaching Delhi, however, he found that the TV had not arrived on the same flight and later the airline staff informed him that it was lost in transit, he said.
Singh alleged that, despite informing Biman authorities about the lost baggage, he was not compensated for the loss.
As the airline had not appeared before the forum to contest the complaint, it was proceeded against ex-parte.
