Caretaker Government
BNP's outline to come after Eid
Senior BNP leader Moudud Ahmed yesterday said they will publish a draft outline of a non-party caretaker government after the Eid-ul-Fitr.
“An outline is being drawn up based on the 13th amendment to the constitution. We will make our plan public soon and ask the government to implement it,” he told a discussion at the Jatiya Press Club.
Moudud, a member of BNP's national standing committee, said the committee decided to prepare the outline as it thought holding a free and fair election under a political government is impossible.
Rejecting the prime minister's plan to form a small cabinet ahead of the next general election, he said, if Sheikh Hasina leads the interim government, it would not be non-partisan.
Forming an interim government is not enough for holding a credible election; it must ensure the entire administration would work neutrally, he noted.
“None has faith in the present government for their activities. They have politicised the administration in such a way that it would not be possible to hold fair polls under this administration.”
That's why, he mentioned, the BNP has demanded restoration of the non-party caretaker government system in the constitution and it would go for tougher agitations after the Eid-ul-Fitr to press home the demand.
Agamir Bangladesh, a pro-opposition body, hosted the discussion.
Parliament last year cancelled the caretaker government system by adopting the 15th amendment to the constitution.
