Filmmaker Tareque Masud and media personality Ashfaque Munier Mishuk, popularly known as Mishuk Munier, were remembered at a programme yesterday, a day before their death anniversary. Recalling their contributions and creations at a commemorating programme, Masud and Mishuk's family members, colleagues and media personalities viewed their death as an irreparable loss to the country's film and mass communication arena. Tareque-Mishuk Smriti Parshad organised the programme in the public library auditorium of the capital. Tareque Masud and Mishuk Munier, along with their film production crew -- Wasim and Jamal -- and microbus driver Mostafizur Rahman were killed in a road accident in Manikganj last year. Addressing the function yesterday, Kazi Monjuly, wife of Mishuk Munier, said they [Tareque and Mishuk] died at a time when they were flourishing. Tareque's wife Catherine Masud said she has been living to fulfil the unfinished work of her husband. Noted litterateur Syed Shamsul Haq, filmmaker Tanvir Mokammel, noted Indian Bengali artiste Moushumi Bhowmik, human rights activist Khushi Kabir, filmmaker Nasiruddin Yousuf Bachchu, among others, spoke at the function. A photography exhibition on him was also held at the Public Library. Earlier, wreaths were placed at Mishuk's grave at the Banani graveyard in the capital. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Arefin Siddique inaugurated a foundation stone built on the university's TSC road island to keep memories of the duo alive. On August 13 last year, a Chuadanga-bound bus from Dhaka collided with their microbus on Dhaka-Aricha highway at Joka under Ghior upazila of Manikganj. Tareque's wife Catherine Masud, painter Dhali Al Mamun, his wife Dilara Zaman Jolly and film production staff Saidul Islam, who were in the microbus, sustained severe injuries but managed to survive. Following the accident, a case was filed with Ghior Police Station against the bus driver. He was arrested on August 15 but was out on bail on November 17. The case is under trial. After the deaths of Tareque Masud and Mishuk Munier, the people of Manikganj have been demanding construction of a memorial stone at the place of the accident. The people have also been demanding construction of road divider from Nabinagar to Paturia since long but the government has not taken any initiative to construct it.
