Bodies of microbus, taxi drivers found

Five days after a microbus driver of Tangail went missing on his way to Dhaka, police recovered his decomposing body near Water Development Board's pump house in Mirpur Beribadh area in the capital on Saturday night. In another incident, the body of a taxi driver, who was taking three to four youths from Feni's Dagonbhuiyan Bazar Petrol Pump to Feni sadar on Friday night, was found at Sonagazi upazila yesterday. The taxi had gone missing, said police. The microbus driver, Adam Ali Miah, 35, had been slaughtered, said police. The microbus owner, Md Selim Miah, who is Adam's brother-in-law, told this correspondent that one, Binimoy, son of Rabiul Guerrilla of Tangail town, hired the microbus on August 6 evening, saying he would go to the capital's Uttara. Selim last talked to Adam around 10:00pm that night, when Adam said he was passing Mirzapur in Tangail en route to Dhaka. After midnight, Selim found cellphones of both Adam and Binimoy switched off. Selim went to Binimoy's house, where Rabiul revealed that Binimoy was a mugger. Selim received a ransom demand, through sources on August 8, of Tk 2 lakh for the return of Adam and the vehicle. The next day, the captors claimed that Adam had escaped and their demand was Tk 1 lakh for the vehicle's return. Selim said he had disagreed.Selim filed a murder case on Saturday night with Tangail Police Station against Binimoy and his unidentified accomplices. A Feni correspondent reports, police said the CNG-run taxi driver, Nizam Uddin Rubel, 24, son of Abul Kashem of Sreedharpur in Dagonbhuiyan municipal area, was hired by three to four youths around 8:00pm to take them to Feni. Rubel's body, with the hands and mouth tied up, was found by the locals in a field at Saheber Haat area of Amirabad union. Police sent the body to Feni Sadar Hospital Morgue for autopsy.
