ETV chairman summoned by court
A Dhaka court yesterday summoned Ekushey Television Ltd (ETV) Chairman Abdus Salam, hours after a tax evasion case was filed against him.
Judge Md Zahirul Haque of Senior Special Judge's Court of Dhaka asked Abdus Salam to appear before it on September 11.
Bazlur Rahman Khan, deputy tax commissioner of National Board of Revenue (NBR), filed the case.
The case statement said the ETV chairman evaded tax upon his income of Tk 17.64 crore in the fiscal years 2006-2007 and 2009-2010.
Earlier on March 20, Abu Sayeed Sohel, deputy tax commissioner of NBR, filed a case against the ETV chairman and its managing director Ashraful Alam for not submitting their tax returns within a stipulated time.
The two were granted bail in the case on March 25.
