Medical College Admission Without Test
Petition filed seeking stay of govt decision
A Supreme Court lawyer yesterday filed a writ petition as public interest litigation praying to the High Court to stay the government decision to admit students to medical and dental colleges without admission tests.
The government, at a meeting in the health ministry on Sunday, decided to admit students into the colleges from the current academic year based on their SSC and HSC exam GPAs without holding admission tests. The meeting was chaired by Health and Family Welfare Minister AFM Ruhal Haque.
The petitioner, Advocate Eonus Ali Akond, said the government decision is illegal and will deprive meritorious students and damage the education system while corruption will take place in the admission process.
Hearing of the petition may be held today.
Meanwhile, students from different educational institutions yesterday brought out a procession in the capital's Shahbagh intersection demanding the decision's withdrawal. They also staged a sit-in in front of Bangladesh Secretariat.
Different student organisations, including Bangladesh Chhatra Union, yesterday urged the same.
