8 killed, 42 hurt in road accidents

Eight people, including an Indian national, were killed and forty-two others injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Munshiganj, Gopalganj, Dinajpur, Comilla and Sirajganj on Sunday and yesterday. Our staff correspondent reports, a BG Press employee died instantly as a BRTC bus ran him over while he was crossing Moghbazar-Mohakhali road in the capital's Tejgaon area yesterday afternoon. The deceased is Abul Hossain, 45, son of Ahmed Ali of Thakurgaon. His colleagues ransacked the bus and blocked the road for around an hour. They also beat up the driver and handed him over to police. Our Munshiganj correspondent reports, two unidentified persons were killed and 29 others injured as two buses collided in Umpara of Shreenagar upazila yesterday. The injured were rushed to Mitford Hospital in the capital and different local hospitals and clinics. Locals blocked the road demanding construction of road divider in the area. In Gopalganj, two women died and 11 others injured as a Nosimon hit a human hauler near Tarokandho Bazar area in Kotalipara yesterday. Laxmi Badoi, 52, an Indian, was one of the deceased. The injured were rushed to Kotalipara Upazila Health Complex and different hospitals in the sadar upazila. In Dinajpur, Rokonuzzaman died instantly as his motorbike hit a roadside building at Shukhdevpur in Chirirbandar on Sunday. In Comilla, Abu Bakar died as a truck hit his motorcycle on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Raipur in Daudkandi yesterday. In Sirajganj, Shahin, 35, died and two others were injured as a bus hit their motorbike at Subarnasara in Belkuchi upazila yesterday morning. The injured were admitted to Sirajganj General Hospital.
