The mother of a housewife, who had allegedly committed suicide at her residence in the capital's Mirpur on Wednesday, filed a murder case against her son-in-law yesterday. Documentary filmmaker Manjurul Hoque Panna, husband of deceased Rikta Khatun, was remanded in custody for three days. In the case statement, Rikta's mother Angura Khatun said after five years of marriage, her daughter had come to learn that Panna had been in frequent contact, over the internet and mobile phone, with a woman who lives in the US. Labelling their interactions over phone and internet as an extra marital affair, Angura claimed when Rikta objected to the affair Panna started beating her. Rikta's mother and relatives claimed Panna had strangled his wife. An autopsy report is pending.
