ETV chairman gets bail in defamation case

The High Court yesterday granted anticipatory bail to Ekushey Television (ETV) Chairman Abdus Salam for four months in a defamation case in Gaibandha. On December 22, 2010, AKM Maksud Chowdhury Bidyut, chairman of Palashpur upazila in Gaibandha, filed the case against Salam and two others of ETV mentioning that the television channel had broadcast a 'derogatory' report against him (Bidyut). On December 2, 2010, the ETV had broadcast the report on an incident of torturing some women at Palashpur involving Maksud Chowdhury Bidyut, said Salam's lawyer Abdul Matin Khasru. The ETV chairman appeared before the court seeking bail yesterday.
