Three policemen closed for freeing rape accused
Three policemen of the capital's Bhasantek Police Station were closed to Rajarbagh Police Lines on Tuesday for freeing a man, accused of raping an 11-year-old girl, after arrest.
The accused -- sub-inspector Fariduddin and assistant sub-inspectors Aja-Ul-Haque and Abdur Rahim -- arrested and brought the 57-year-old man to the police station on August 31 but let him go the next day.
Bhasantek Police Station Officer-in-Charge Hosna Ara said the victim and her family declined to press charges because the accused was the victim's distant grandfather.
With no charges, police had no option but to record a general diary and release the accused, she said.
